Appointments

We encourage patients to make appointments with their doctor in advance. However, your doctor understands that you cannot always predict when you will need to see them. Because of this, your doctor welcomes walk-in patients. However, your doctor will prioritise patients with appointments over those who do not, and those patients without appointments will often have to wait longer than those who do.

While your doctor will try to maintain appointment times, some problems take longer to deal with than others. Please be patient and understanding – your doctor will also give you the time you need. Your help in requesting extra time to see your doctor for complex and thorough examinations such as annual health checks, multiple problems, surgical procedures, mental health plans and travel health would be appreciated. You will need to call reception to book a longer appointment. For single appointments you can book online via HotDoc.

If you are experiencing chest pain, heavy bleeding or difficulty breathing, you should go to your nearest hospital immediately. Please advise the receptionist on arrival if you believe you require urgent medical attention.

Fees and Structure

The doctors at Florey Medical are independent medical practitioners, not employees, who each conduct their own medical practice. As they practice independently, they set their own fees.

Doctors choose the times they work and make independent clinical judgements.

The doctors' consultation fees will vary with the length, complexity, and type of consultation. Longer than standard consultations attract a higher fee from your doctor.

Consultations after-hours, at weekends & Public Holidays also attract higher fees.

Please call reception on 6259 1444 for more information. All worker's compensation cases require proof of the insurer's acceptance of liability for accounts to be issued directly to the insurer; otherwise, patients must pay for the consultation themselves.

After-Hours Care

For existing patients of doctors who are supported by Florey Medical, please contact 6259 1444 for instructions.

Home Visits

Home visits are available for regular patients of the doctors who conduct their practice from Florey Medical and who cannot attend the surgery due to their medical condition. Please call reception on 6259 1444 for more information. Please note that this service is not an emergency service and is done so at the decision of the doctor. Fees during office hours will be determined by your doctor.

Requests for Repeat Prescriptions & Referrals

A repeat prescription or referral may be provided at your doctor's discretion, without an appointment.

Your doctor will require a minimum of two days (48 hours excluding weekends and public holidays) to deal with these requests. Fees for requests will be determined by your doctor and there is no Medicare rebate.

Please either book an appointment or attend the centre as a walk-in patient, as appointments take priority over phone requests.

If you require a script from your doctor urgently (e.g. you are low on, or have run out of medication), a script request may not be suitable - please book an appointment to see your GP, or attend the centre as a walk-in patient.

Please present photo ID to reception for collection of your documents and scripts.

Communication Policy

Your doctor may only take urgent calls. You can ask the reception team to send a message to your doctor and you will usually receive a response within 2 working days. If your matter is urgent please book either a face to face or Telehealth appointment with your doctor via HotDoc or by calling reception.

Email should  not be used for booking appointments or messaging your doctor as it is not secure. Please take care in disclosing confidential information.

Your Health Information

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is your doctors policy to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff. Please ask your doctor or reception for a copy of our privacy policy.

Medical Certificates

Medical Certificates are legal documents. Your doctor cannot backdate medical certificates, and your doctor will only issue them for genuine medical conditions that your doctor determines time off from work or study. To obtain a medical certificate, you must have a consultation with a doctor. A fee may be charged by your doctor for replacement medical certificates.

Results

We recommend that you return for a follow-up consultation with your doctor to discuss the results of all tests.

Privacy

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of the doctors to always maintain the security of your personal health information and to ensure that this information is available only to authorised people.

Reminders

All patients are automatically enrolled in the internal recall and reminder system for regular health checks such as blood pressure and cholesterol. Please let your doctor know if you do not want this to occur. Notification of all pap smears, childhood immunisations and some adult vaccinations will be provided to the relevant national registry. Please advise your doctor if you do not wish this to occur.

Comments and complaints

The health care providers welcome your comments on how to improve their services. Please talk to your doctor or the receptionists about your concerns or suggestions. In the unfortunate event of less than satisfactory service from the health care providers or administrative personnel, please ask to speak to the doctor concerned, the business operations manager or Dr Siew Lo. The doctors are independent medical practitioners and are individually responsible for their clinical decisions and interactions with their patients. You can also lodge an official complaint with the Health Complaints Commissioner at GPO Box 158, Canberra, ACT, 2601.
